Here is a video of the beer launching fridge (Thanks, Todd K!) that The Door blogged about recently. Here is beerlauncher.com. It's creator is thinking about making and selling them commercially.
I have decided that there might be a large enough interest to produce a limited number of beer launching fridges. If I was to manufacture them I would have all of the parts professionally machined for a much cleaner look (although it would still have exposed motors, gears, etc). The price would be around $1500, although the launcher would have a few improvements. The new launcher would use something similar to a miniature TV remote. It would have buttons to rotate it left, right, fire, and also have 0-9 be programmable angles. I would use a slightly larger mini-fridge so that the magazine would be closer to 20 beers. The distance will be adjustable manually to get the right couch distance, but will not be adjustable with the remote. Please email me if you would be interested in purchasing one at that price.
I don't know if they will catch on or not. The $1,500 price tag seems a bit much for a novelty, but I only speak for myself on this matter. I also rarely drink canned beer. Will the launcher work with bottles? Will it throw tall boys for those that like to drink 16 oz canned beer?
In any case, I like his entrepreneurial spirit. I also think it's a great example of how many entrepreneurs become entrepreneurs in the first place. They have no idea that a desire exists for something, but they develop something for their own use/enjoyment that they find other people find desirable too.
