There is no doubt in my mind that the salary cap in the NHL has made the league more competitive but it has diluted the level of play. Teams are forced to pay big bucks to their top talent and do not have the salary cap room to pay experienced second tier players what their worth and have to use lesser talented players or less matured rookies. Also if you make a mistake and sign Wade Redden to big contract and he is washed up. You are out of luck. It has destroyed the quality of play in the NFL too as a bonus food for thought.
