Athletics officials at the University of Colorado at Boulder have announced a novel approach for dealing with football players who run afoul of the law, The Denver Post reported yesterday.
Fed up with the arrest or suspension of 13 football players in 15 months on allegations ranging from armed robbery to vandalism, the university’s athletics director, Mike Bohn, and the head football coach, Dan Hawkins, have unveiled a plan in which one athlete’s missteps result in punishment for a larger group.
The tactic, they hope, will deter football players from brushes with the law that have tarnished the Buffaloes’ reputation in recent years.
According to the Denver Post, the AD is also going to hire a "director of 'student-athletes wellness'" to help combat the problem the Buffs have had of late. A quick Google search turned nothing up on what tthis position is. But even if this attempt at peer pressure works to get rid of this problem, coach Hawk has a bigger problem: the performance of his football team on the field of play.
