It's been real busy around the Powerhouse during the last month or so. It's now Christmas "break" and I'm spending it doing the usual holiday stuff, but in taking "time off," I am working on two projects - one of which is rather huge - and will be travelling to Boston for the ASSA meetings. But I won't be going to any sessions. Instead, I'll be interviewing candidates for faculty positions.
So, in other words, blogging will probably be rather light during this Christmas "break."
Personal pet peeve: When someone remarks "Oh, so it's <insert name of> Break. It must be nice to have time off." I really don't get a lot of time off. But don't cry for me, Argentina. One thing that's nice about a faculty position in academia is the flexibility of my schedule. Here it is, past 11 o'clock at night. I woke up at 6 this morning and, after a stiff cup of espresso coffee (plus 6 or so more!!!), I plowed into the data for one of my projects for the next several hours. Part of that time was spent recovering data lost after a bit of a mishap. But I got to spend the evening with the Powerkids and the Powercat and now that they are in bed for the evening, I can return to my stuff.
I can say one thing for sure: being an academic during December beats the hell out of being a retail manager during December. I've been there, done that and I ain't doing that again!
